Alright Falcons!

The Atlanta Falcons got Tony Gonzalez.

Sweet!

With Gonzo and White catching passes, Turner and Norwood in the backfield and Ryan at QB, they are freaking SET on that side of the ball. They can now load up on defense (which is Mike Smith's strong suit anyway)....

This was a team that went 11-5 last year and lost on the road to what turned out to be really good and really hot Cardinals team (and that was a road game due to the quirky seeding system---The Cards only finished 9-7 in the reg season but were NFC West champs---if that game had been played in Atlanta the result may have been different).

Anyway, ah do believe that the Jawjuh Dome weeyill be hostin some playoff games this yeahh.

PS: CPP, I still can't believe that your Iggles didn't step up and give up a 2nd round pick for Gonzalez....he's got at least two more pro-bowl years left in him and he's a pro's pro to boot.

Couldn't be happier for the Atlanta fans and Falcons owner that their team has turned the corner so fast. Good for them after being taken in by Michael Vick and all the shit that accompanied his act (the thug mentality thought to be cool which pervades all pro sports). The Tony Gonzales trade is huge for them! And you're right, Stache, a little of this and a little of that and they could've been playing the Steelers in the big one.

Damn right! Of course, they'd have lost that one ;-) but it would still have been a great season for them!
(Sorry ATL buddies who may check in---I have fond memories of Atlanta and wish them well, but nothing supplants the 'Burgh on the fondness scale).

This is a great move for Atlanta. The Iggs are looking to pick up a receiver who can spread the field vertically. Gonzalez wouldn't help with that.

I didn't mean instead of a vertical threat, I meant in addition to. Gonzo makes any receiving corps/offense better as he is one more legit threat to whom the opposing defense has to assign a good man. It would free up the deep threats more if a DB was on Gonzo....if they put the MLB on him, Westbrook would kill the middle of the D. I just thought that Westbrook in particular would have much better room esp when they played cover2 Ds if they had a guy like Gonzo threatening the middle.
Also, he may not be a vertical threat but there are few better receivers in the red zone.
Anyways, looks like you guys will end up with Boldin which would be good.

Well, yeah, Gonzales *and* a deep threat would be great. But there are limited resources available to work with. I am praying they get Boldin. With that awesome BST they just picked up, McNabb will have time to really work the long ball. If that happens, Reid better get over his fucking inability/unwillingness to call pass plays in short-yardage and red-zone situations. I still wake up screaming from nightmares (that are too real, unfortunately) of 1st-and-goals that got frittered away in between-the-tackles run plays.

Macklin. Hmm.

Yeah, Reid is a strange mix of cool and WTF.
Hmmm is correct re Maclin. I guess the price for Boldin + what Boldin wanted for a long term contract was too much.
Maybe they'll go after Torry Holt---I thought Holt was still good but StLouis just sucked recently. It puzzles me that nobody has gone after Holt---maybe he's washed up.
